Planning vs Obsessing

Picture of my planners from 2025.

Every time I get excited about planning, it turns into an obsession. I even create plans for my plans. Map it out daily and nightly. Then change the plan of action two more times once I’m done simply because there was nothing else to plan anymore or my obsession took me so far off track, so now I have to switch gears completely.

I am convinced that I put myself in positions where I have to change my plan completely unconsciously, simply because I am that addicted to the process.

Addicted to thinking.

Addicted to the mind maps and trackers.

Addicted to creating cute templates.

Addicted to the obsession.

Very little of what I plan actually goes into fruition. I spent too much time making it cute that I never got up the nerve to execute.

Creating the goals are the first step. My goals are clear. I am not confused by them. Breaking down the goals into objectives, done a million times and can tell you from the millions of minutes and hundreds of dollars I spent on researching that I know exactly what needs to happen to achieve my goals.

I have literally laid multiple variations of those plans down on pen and paper.

But, the execution? Execution has seen very little of me. Even when I start, life happens,  I find an excuse and stop again. I am never as relentless with the execution as I am with my planning. I guarantee you that I do not allow life or anyone to distract me from planning.

But the walls could creek or a slight change of my mood? Then, boom!!! I disengage for months, in a toxic cycle of starting and stopping and proclaiming I will start again. Only to eventually admit to myself that I’ve quit. So, naturally I have to start the whole process over again, which leads to… another reason to plan.

Hi, my name is Mandisa Mosi and planning is my addition.

Reminder to self:

  • It doesn’t have to be perfect, just effective.

  • God is the ultimate planner, seek direction from God first before goal setting.
