We Are All White Supremacists

We are living in interesting times. Very polarizing times.
Back in my day, you could disagree with someone and it wouldn’t be a threat to your livelihood.
Back in my day, we had democrats and republicans. But now things have shifted.
We have extremes of everything. So instead of democrats and republicans, it is liberals and conservatives.
Individuals saw a Black face in the white house for 8 years and got so triggered they brought the Confederates out of hiding. They never even paused to realize the only thing truly progressive about him was his skin color.
He definitely didn’t do much about the brutality Black people were facing from civilians and policemen alike.
But to a Confederate, I mean a conservative, anything with Black skin is the enemy, unless it’s Candace Owens of course.
And since there is a Universal Law of Polarity, the Liberals awakened. Yet, what both sides fail to realize is that we are all white supremacists mentally.
Greetings of peace, love, and harmony! I am Mandisa Mosi!
I make content around mental health, deepening our self awareness, strengthening our spiritual fortitude and I even share my love for stationary. But today I’m stepping outside of my usual because frankly, I’m tired.
The current landscape is deepening our divide. Mainstream media and celebrities seem to be going with the tide and no one with a voice is keeping track of how many children have died.
Yes, I write poetry as well. I am aware that rhymed and no, it was not intentional.
I want to shift our attention to this piece of work below.
Please see the attached here and reference while reading. I can no longer find the original. However, it was written by Kenneth Jones and Tema Okun. It is an article included in a social change workbook about Dismantling Racism called, White Supremacy Culture.
The article does not have anything to do with racial hatred or the things we may think of when we think of White Supremacy. You don’t have to hate me because I’m Black to participate in white supremacist culture.
It lives and thrives off of nuances. The nuance that trains our minds to be ok with divide and conquer because if you truly take a HONEST look at the way we operate on a daily basis (before we even knew of Obama) is extremely divisive and we are always seeking ways to conquer/be the best.
The only way to truly eradicate white supremacy is to eradicate how it shows up in you. Which is why this topic is aligned with my content.
In this article there are 13 characteristics of white supremacy culture. We will go through all of them and reflect on how these characteristics show up in how we release to ourselves and our other interpersonal relationships. Keep in mind this content was originally written for organizations to take a look at their work place culture.
However, we are taking this information and going inward. If you got the free e-book on my website you will learn how I was first introduced to his literature. Let’s dive in!
The first description is perfectionism
When I first started my spiritual journey I had an obsession on right right vs wrong and finding the faults in others. “Oh they pronounced tarot wrong so they know nothing.” or “I have to know every little detail about this subject before I speak on it because I don’t want to look stupid.” This was my truth and I still catch myself over analyzing whether or not I feel like I know enough, am I pretty enough, am I perfect enough…am I enough?
Secondly, Sense of Urgency
All of us are obsessed with achieving some sort of goal by a certain age. In fact, when I was younger I expected to have had my life all figured out by now. We even look at school trajectory schedules from what’s expected from high school to PhD, but no one ever asks us “what’s the rush?” We only hear “Life is short.” So, we have to do and not only do we have to do it, but we have to do it NOW!!!
Thirdly - Defensiveness
When I’m doom scrolling and I see the amount of arguments people are having or the gas lighting and scapegoating people will do all because they got defensive due to viewing being ‘wrong’ as a threat. No one wants to be wrong. We are in the land of podcasts so “everyone with a microphone is right” or feel like they have to be right because allegedly speaking with a microphone and camera in your face makes you a subject matter expert or a person with authority.
Now #4 will trigger a lot of us, Quantity Over Quality
In the world of content creation and algorithm fine tuning, we must post and hop on trends…FAST! Especially if you have a reaction channel. Strike while the iron is hot takes a real meaning in today’s age. I feel slightly inspired to go deeper on how content creators don’t actually create. They just make content. Let me know in the comment section if that is something that you are interested in. I’ve literally seen reaction videos reacting to another reaction video.
Five, Worship of the Written World
I am interested in seeing how AI and ChatGPT changes this over time, but for now this is still valid. Have you ever made a point to someone based off your lived experienced and they go “sources?” or where did you get this information from? Have you yourself ever done that? There are people who will literally devalue people’s experiences because they didn’t see it in a book OR they don’t like the book that you got it from.
By the way, the source is always: trust me bro….just kidding, links will always be provided.
Six: Paternalism
So, a hierarchy. “Let me speak to your manager”. “I don’t have to listen to you.” Is rooted in, I feel like you don’t have authority “over” me as opposed to just engaging with each other as normal human beings
Seven: Either/Or Thinking
This might be my most favorite one and the toughest one I had to dismantle because someone who was strictly right brain and RAN off logic, things had to be this way or that way. They could not be both. I need clarity. I need to know exactly what to do. Give me the step by step process. I have a BS in Chemistry and spent 4 years doing extensive research with deadly chemicals, there is no room for both/and. However, life is not a chem lab. Life is definitely both/and AND if we are going to learn to honor our own humanity we must accept that we are not either/or beings.
#8: Power Hoarding
When we start our careers or even when we were setting career goals, we are always looking for, at least I know I was, ways to get on top. We work hard to be the supervisor or CEO. We have to make it to a leadership role. But, why? Subconsciously we know that those in leadership have power. People who become greedy with money tend to do so because they see the power it gives them access to. I speak on this in my first video on YouTube, God vs Money.
#9: Fear of Open Conflict
Our parents are often times the source of our fear of conflict. Did your mom or dad or you walk on eggshells when they had a conflict or was it just completely avoided all together? How does your friend group handle conflict?
#10: Individualism
There can only be one winner in life, right? If you made it this far, do you see how easy it is to forget we are talking about white supremacy culture? Because things like this are all normalized. It is as common as sliced bread.
#11: Progress is bigger/More
Social media shows all the analytics. All the likes, subscribes all the comments. Spotify even shows us the numbers of our favorite artists, so we judge their growth and how good their music is based on how their numbers are. And if the numbers aren’t growing for your favorite artist, content creator, or even yourself then you must be a failure or worst…you fell off.
#12: Objectivity
This big life is not totally objective. “There Will be Tears,” as Frank Ocean once said and the presence of tears or emotions does not invalidate what someone has to say.
#13: Right to Comfort
Get comfortable with uncomfortable feelings. A person or situation that makes you uncomfortable is not the enemy. They can be the gateway to your elevation. It is OK to strive for the soft life, but do not do it to your detriment.
So as you can see White Supremacy Mindset/Culture is not some far off, back woods mentality. It is something that lives and breathes in all of us and must continuously be addressed and eradicated whenever we notice it within us.
